Although our vacation had a bit of a rocky start, it DEFINITELY got better after the first couple of days! We ended up LOVING our room, the pool at our hotel, the location of our hotel on the 1.8km ocean front boardwalk and the free breakfast! :) ha. We both agree that if we go back to Myrtle Beach, we'd stay at the Holiday Inn Pavilion again FOR SURE!
The purpose of this vacation was to RELAX (since I'm a go-go-go type of person, David made that VERY clear before we left for the trip). So, every day we did just that- RELAX! We would get up at around 7:30am, I would do laps in the pool while David packed the cooler and ran errands (read: grocery shopped for snacks), and then we would stay at the pool ALL day. It was actually amazing! I read 4 books (I LOVE reading and never have time to do it!), got a killer tan ;) and of course, made David do a few walks along the beach to get in some cardio!
At night, Myrtle Beach really comes alive! It's totally an entertainment hub with countless restaurants, rides, shops, shows and mini putt courses. If it exists in the entertainment world, Myrtle Beach has it. Here's a recap of what we did:
On Monday night we went for a quick dinner, got some Ben and Jerry's ice cream (we've been addicted since our honeymoon in Maui but only indulge on VERY special occasions), and then booked it back to the hotel room to watch the Bachelorette FINALE!! ha ha. I know, call me pathetic, but I COULDN'T MISS IT (and neither could David, but don't tell him I said so ha ha).
On Tuesday night we played our first round of mini putt. So here's the thing. I've always been REALLY good at mini putt. Weirdly good. Like I normally beat David when we play by sinking multiple hole in one's. So I was SO excited to play our first round in Myrtle (where there seems to be a mini putt on every corner). I carefully selected our first course- a beautiful, mainly par 2, treasure hunt themed course with lots of elevation changes and stunning views of the main strip! I was all ready to set a course record when...I took 6 shots to get the ball in on the first hole. AHhh! My second and third holes weren't much different. David was (of course) LOVING my newfound bad luck. Unfortunately for me, it never wore off! We finished with very different scores and so a REPLAY was in order!
On Wednesday night we got tickets to see "the world's greatest thrill show", Cirque Extreme! ha ha ha, while we're not convinced that it's ACTUALLY the world's GREATEST thrill show, there were definitely thrilling elements to the show! It featured amazing acrobats, trampolinists and even three dirt bikers who rode their bikes in a small metal sphere. For $45 bucks a ticket, it was DEFINITELY worth it!
On Thursday late afternoon-ish we decided to play a round of REAL golf. David is a golfer and wants to spend our retirement years on the golf course. I'm not entirely opposed because golf clothes are VERY cute, so I thought I better start to at least learn the basics of the sport! The great news? I WAS ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD! I made a few nice drives, some nice shots with my 5 iron (my favourite club) and even one or two nice shots with my sand wedge (definitely my least favourite club). Yes- I have LOTS (and lots and lots) of room for improvement, but it was really great spending time together doing something that David really loves (and excels at)!
On Friday we did a little shopping (gathering all of our last minute souvenirs), played our second round of mini golf (at a REALLY cool Captain Hook themed course) where David still beat me, and them walked the main street of Myrtle Beach, taking in the night life one final time!
Saturday morning we got up early-ish to squeeze in one last walk along the beach, then I did laps in the pool while David packed up the car! We stopped at our favourite breakfast spot- Eggs Up Grill- on our way out of Myrtle Beach and then started the long drive home!
Vacations are AMAZING! While it sucks coming home (vacations are never long enough), we feel SO fortunate that we had the opportunity to get away and enjoy quality time with each other!
Hi! I'm Mrs. Julia Dawe,
