When I hear the words strawberry and rhubarb together in one sentence, I'm automatically sold! I mean seriously the sweetness of strawberries coupled with the tartness of rhubarb has got to be one of the best flavour combinations known to man. I love it in any form- pie, muffin, loaf, jam and now CRISP! :)
Last summer David's grandparents gave me a large freezer bag full of home grown rhubarb. I had big dreams of making rhubarb muffins, rhubarb loaf, rhubarb pie, rhubarb compote etc. (you get the idea), but instead, that bag of rhubarb sat in our freezer for 12 whole months! A couple of weeks ago David said "You have to use that rhubarb ASAP or I'm throwing it out. It's taking up way too much space in our freezer!" That night we went to my in-laws' house for dinner and they serendipitously served to-die-for strawberry rhubarb crisp for dessert. I asked for the recipe and finally got around to making it myself this week!
