Jessica and I have been friends since birth... literally! Our grandparents were friends and our mom's are best friends so we didn't really have a choice. Over the past 26 years of friendship we've created MANY MANY MANY memories together, many of which involve getting into some sort of trouble! A few examples: Getting kicked out of Wonderland's water park for jumping out of the inner tubes while riding the slides, sneaking out of our cabin at camp to pull pranks on the camp director, spending a week "stuck" on a senior's cruise, setting my cousin Chris up on dates by hacking into his MSN account and chatting up all of the girls (sorry not sorry Chris) and nearly getting escorted out of a christian new years party for rockin' the dance floor too hard. LOL. Well, some things never change. Today we decided to go for a "short 5km run" (...in Jessica's words) together and so we left Jessica's house at 10am and drove to find the trail system parking lot. Upon arriving, we took a quick glance at the trail system map and headed into the forest. After completing ALL of the trail loops (at least once!!!) we thought we should probably start to head back....but WHICH direction had we come from? What trail were we currently on? Where the HECK did we leave the car? How long had we been gone for? (of course we hadn't brought our phones or watches with us...ugh) We started taking different trails trying desperately to find the exit. Finally we started to hear cars, we started to see light sky, we started to relax our pace a bit and then... we hit a dead end. A FRIGGEN DEAD END!!! So we turned our butts around and took a different trail that lead us to an opening and a parking lot...but not the RIGHT parking lot. At this point we didn't care. We thought it would be better to exit the trail system and run along the main road instead of trying to navigate through the trail system. But where was the car lot along the road? Was it West or East of McCowan? How far West or East? Oh my gosh. We were EXHAUSTED, THIRSTY, PANICKED and ultimately, LOST!! After flagging down a trucker and a family who assured us that we were on Ravenshoe (...thanks for the tips....NOT!) and that they would drive us if they didn't have their kids in the car (haven't they ever heard of double buckling!?!?), we kept running and eventually bumped into the parking lot. HALLELUJAH! It was 11:40am. Our "short 5km run" had turned into an hour and a half adventure...BUT once we were safe at home, sitting down, drinking water.....we both agreed that we wouldn't have changed a thing! Thanks for the new memory Jessica! xo
