Tired of finding incredible recipes online only to forget about them OR have to go through the hassle of a) printing them out or b) scrolling through the recipe on your phone while grocery shopping/cooking to copy out the ingredients and instructions? If you’re like me than you have 2 hands up right now! That’s why when I discovered Pepperplate I was totally obsessed!
Pepperplate is a website/app that will make life easier for you in so many ways! For one, it allows you to copy recipes from a number of online sources directly into a personal library of recipes. From there you can build weekly menus using the recipes that you’ve added to your recipe library. After you’ve created your weekly menu, Pepperplate will create a grocery list for you based on the dishes in your weekly menu! You can go through the list and uncheck any ingredient that you already have so that you don’t end up with 4 jars of Cajun spice (**true story**). And the best part? You can access the menu/shopping list via the app on your phone!
Here's a really quick photo walk-through of the site:
Below is a picture of my "recipe library" or "recipe list". This area of the site holds all the recipes that you have either inputted manually or downloaded from online sources.
So how do you input recipes into your recipe list? It's simple.
1. Find an online recipe that you really want to try (I chose the creamy pesto shrimp and chicken with linguini and asparagus because...YUM!) and copy the URL.
2. On the Pepperplate website, under the "recipes" tab, click "import recipe" and the following page will appear...
3. Paste your copied URL into the box (as seen below) and then click the bright green "add" button.
4. VOILA! The whole recipe has been added to your recipe library!
One really great feature is that Pepperplate makes it SUPER easy to adjust serving sizes. Simply go to the "scale recipe" section and click "2" if you want to double the recipe, "1/2" if you want to half the recipe etc.
To view or edit your shopping list, click on the "add to shopping list" tab and simply uncheck any ingredient(s) that you already have at home! It's THAT easy!!
So now you're ready to plan out your meals for the week! David and I try our best to come up with a general menu for the week on Sundays so that we have time to purchase anything that we'll need. If I'm being honest though, some weeks I'm totally guilty of running to the grocery store every night on my way home from work to grab ingredients for dinner :/. Pepperplate has helped me to be more organized and as a result, lower my grocery bill.
To plan your meals click on the "planner" tab at the top of the Pepperplate site. See pic below:
From there, use your mouse to scroll over the day/time that you want to enter and a pop up that says "new text item" will appear. Start typing the name of a recipe/dish. If that recipe/dish is part of your "recipe list" then it will appear and you can click on it. That dish will appear blue in your menu.
THAT'S IT GUYS!!! Sorry about the lengthy post....but I hope it was helpful! If you give Pepperplate a try let me know what you think about it!! :)
