Okay. I'm a LITTLE obsessed with my bulletin board this year! Last year I have to admit that I TOTALLY slacked with bulletins. I was in and out of the music job for 2-3 months at a time so I never felt like I could make the room my own, AND since it was my first year teaching music, I was so focused (and stressed) about figuring out teaching that I had no time/energy left to put towards 'extras' like decoration. Now that I'm a seasoned veteran (ha ha....I know it's only my second year...but this year I feel SO MUCH MORE RELAXED because I've already done it once), I decided that the hallway outside my classroom needed a little PIZZAZ!! I wanted a bulletin that would include EVERY SINGLE STUDENT that I teach and that students would enjoy looking at!
I started googling and found a couple of ideas that I liked....
I got 460 music notes printed from Staples and spent a few evenings cutting them out (shout out to Madeline for helping!!). Then during the first 2 weeks of school I got EVERY student at Elkhorn to decorate a note with their name on it, in whatever colours/patterns they liked! I didn't tell the students what my plan was...so they were really curious about what was going to happen with their notes!
When they were all decorated I started to group the notes by colour! Any notes that were multicoloured (ie. MOST of them!! ha) I just sorted into the pile of the most prominent colour on the note! Then I arranged the piles in the order that I wanted them to appear on my bulletin.
Then the hard work of STAPLING 460 MUSIC NOTES TO THE BULLETIN BOARD began. I totally underestimated how many hours AND STAPLES this portion of the project would take! IT WAS A LOT!!
Anyways....the end result was SO WORTH IT! The kids LOVE looking for their name, pointing it out to parents/friends and searching for other people's notes! It's really cool that they ALL feel that they've contributed to this amazing "masterpiece"!
Here are some close-ups of the notes:
