This past weekend started off with an ESSENTIAL OILS PARTY with 3 of my closest friends from work! The small number of guests created the perfect environment for an essential oils party- intimate, relaxed and lots of fun! Jill Brown, from Essence of Hope Oils, was our host/teacher for the evening and she was AMAZING! Jill is down-to-earth, fun, honest and very knowledgable about Essential Oils! (If you're interested in learning more about Essential Oils or would like to host your own party, look her up on Facebook). Throughout the party we learned about and got to test/smell a variety of oils. I ended up walking away with Lavender, Lemon, Tea Tree and Peppermint ones. With the Lavender and Tea Tree oils, I plan on making my very own face cleanser. All you do is mix jojoba oil (which can be purchased at any health food store) with the essential oils, rub the mixture onto your face and let it soak in for a few minutes before wiping clean with a warm, wet towel. Apparently it leaves your face feeling clean and soft! I can't wait to try it out! The Peppermint oil is supposed to be amazing for headaches and also cools you down when you're feeling hot. We tried it out at the party and it REALLY WORKED! Honestly, I couldn't believe how quickly I needed to zip up my hoodie because my body felt chilled. It was really cool!
Jill talked about all of the chemicals that go into our household and skin care products and the negative effects those can have on our bodies. A few years ago she started transitioning from store-bought, chemical packed cleaning products, to making her own clean products using essential oils, and she's never looked back!
Over the past few years my thinking about big companies, and the products they produce, has changed drastically! I used to think that companies had my best interest in mind! But time and time again that idea has been disproved. I think about food companies that advertise cereals as being "part of a balanced breakfast" when they're loaded with toxic sugar. I think about medications that relieve one symptom, while causing others (which will then need to be medicated). And now, thanks to Jill, I think about cleaning and skin care products that you think are good for your home and body, but are actually full of harmful chemicals!
The good news is that we DO have a choice! Jill has chosen to say "NO" to harmful chemicals by making her own products, using essential oils! She brought her home-made laundry detergent (80 loads for $2.10), toilet bombs, hand soap, dryer sheets etc., to the party and it was pretty cool to see that it's POSSIBLE to make your own clean/natural products (and that you don't have to blow the bank to do it!). I'm not saying that starting tomorrow I'll never buy hand soap again, but I'm definitely challenged to start by making my own face cleanser....and who knows where it could go from there!
Have any of YOU used essential oils? Or made your own skin care or cleaning products? I'd love to hear about it!
