For the past two years I've helped to coach the Cross Country team at Elkhorn! Why? Because I love encouraging kids to be active. Because I love interacting with students outside of the classroom. AND because it means taking the kids to the Cross Country Race. Cross Country Race Day is one of my favourite school days of the year! Hundreds of kids from across Toronto (grades 1-8) get together at a beautiful park to compete in a massive cross country race! I know what you're thinking.....THAT'S FUN?????? HA HA. But it actually IS! Seeing SO many kids, of all ages, using their bodies, enjoying the outdoors, pushing themselves to new limits and cheering on their friends is really incredible.
This year we brought close to 70 kids to the event and I was SO PROUD of every single student for doing their BEST! We had students compete in the race that couldn't even complete 3 laps of our school field at the beginning of the cross country season! It was especially incredible to see the sense of accomplishment that those students felt when they crossed the finish line at the race!
It's also pretty amazing when you get to do this sweet coaching gig with your work bestie...who appreciates a good selfie just as much as you do. I swear we were watching the kids and not just taking pics all day!! ;)
