Today I got paid to spend the day outside, cheering on running kids! I KNOW.... I have the BEST job EVER! I have to admit.....I haven't alwayssss loved cross country meets. When I was in grade 6, I joined the cross country team with my bff Tiana. I was a hefty 11 year old who ran only when forced (or bribed with treats) and Tiana just so happened to be a running super-star! EVERY cross country meet, I would run a few minutes before suddenly becoming "sick", "fainting" or "getting lost" (read: giving up!!). At the very last meet of the season, I actually finished the race! I remember being SO SO SO proud of myself. Since then I've developed a love for running, especially if it's outside with my mom or friends that I can chat with. I think it's SO cool to have the opportunity, as an adult, to encourage kids to get active, do their best and get into an activity that they'll be able to enjoy for years to come!
Birthdays are the best! Obviously MY birthday is my favourite (ha....if you know me than you know I'm not kidding!! I like to celebrate it for the whole month of June!! ha), but celebrating the birthdays of close friends and family is pretty incredible too!
Life seems to whip by and we don't pause often enough to tell people how special they are or what we love about them. Birthdays provide an opportunity to do that. In my family, during the birthday dinner (which the birthday boy/girl gets to choose) we go around the table and every person says something that they love about the birthday boy/girl! This is honestly my favourite thing!!
Today my dad celebrated his 53rd birthday and there were LOTS of reasons shared about why we love my dad! First, my dad is the most selfless person I know. He consistently puts other people's needs/wants/desires/comfort ahead of his own. Seriously, I don't think I've heard my dad complain more than a couple of times in my WHOLE life- he's incredible! Second, my dad has always made time for our family. He's a really busy person- he works a TON (like I mean A TON), he runs a hockey league, leads a sunday school class, runs youth events and STILL makes time to invest in our lives! I don't know how he does it! Finally, he is an obedient follower of Christ and the fruits of the spirit- love, joy, peace patience, kindness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control- are evident in his life.
I'm SO proud of my dad. I'm so grateful that I've been able to 'do life' with him for the last 25 years! I hope that 53 is his BEST year yet- filled with new opportunities, adventures and learning!
Life has been a bit of a whirlwind recently. Settling into my new job (teaching music), new role (being a wife) and new home, on top of getting used to the routine of post-summer life, has been both exciting and totally exhausting! As a result, blogging was put on the back burner for a while.
The good news is..... The blog is BAAAAACK! :)
Here's a little peek into our life as of late. Apologies for the poor quality photos. If I had an Iphone 6s I know it wouldn't be an issue (**HINT HINT David**)
These were taken on our way to our 3rd annual SOUPFEST!! If you haven't been to a soupfest....you're missing out BIG TIME. Basically, it's an event where tons of restaurants bring soup (everything from the traditional butternut squash, to the crazy pumpkin spice- whip cream and all- and the savoury moroccan). You can pay an entrance fee that allows you to go around to the restaurant booths to sample the different types of soup. There's live music playing, farmers market goods for sale, and tons of happy, full people....so it's really just a GREAT time. We're already looking forward to soupfest #4!
