From pom-pom details and mules to glitter heels and jellies, there is no shortage of variety in the shoe department this season!
Here are the five shoe trends I'm rocking this summer:
Why? Because WHY NOT! Metallics are the hottest thing right now and wearing metallic shoes just makes you feel FUN! The silver pair are new this year and so far I've paired them with a simple black dress and ripped denim! I've owned the brown pair of heels with gold accents for three years and they are without a doubt the shoe I reach for most often in the summer! (hence why they are looking a little worn)
Why? Because they are super comfortable and they go with everything! Not only that… you don’t even have to bend down to put them on! #majorscore
Why? Because they make your legs look great, they’re so light and airy and they instantly dress up any outfit! When I purchased these shoes in the spring I didn’t anticipate wearing them as much as I do. The heel is the perfect height and the colour goes with everything!
4. Upscale flip-flop.
Why? Because everyone should own a pair of sandals that is as comfortable as a flip-flop but that doesn't scream "I'm going to the beach". While flip flops are fine for romping around at the cottage, they are hard to dress up. These sandals are the perfect median- super comfy and decently casual, but cool enough to rock with a pair of jeans and a pretty top!
Why? I love the way wood looks on a shoe! There’s something earthy and yet sophisticated about it. I found these shoes at Saks Off Fifth last year and I couldn’t be happier with them! They are perfect for wearing with summer dresses, high-waisted shorts and even jeans!
What shoe trends are YOU loving this season?!?
This week, out of the blue, I started craving this Salmon Ball snack. Every time we go to my Aunty Michelle and Uncle Brian's house they serve it as an appetizer and every time I can't get enough! My Aunty Michelle says she often makes this during the week for her four kids to snack on throughout the day and I totally understand why- it's tasty, healthy (a good combination of fat, protein and carbs) and SUPER easy to make! Why not make one at the beginning of the week and keep it in your fridge for when those nasty post-work cravings hit?!
Here's what you'll need:
1. Place cream cheese and salmon in a mixing bowl and combine until creamy.
2. Transfer creamy mixture to a piece of saran wrap.
3. Fold saran wrap until the mixture is shaped like a sphere and then chill in the fridge for 1 hour (or more)
4. Roll the ball in pecan pieces.
5. Serve slightly chilled with your favourite crackers!
So we're nearing the end of June which means we've reached the time of the year where my card buying/giving peaks! The end of the school year means cards for co-workers, bosses, notes of appreciation for friends, students and parents of students, and tons of birthday cards (honestly it feels like 99% of my friends have June birthdays)! I don't know about you, but I LOVE to get a good card and I also love to give a good card! When I go card shopping I'm immediately drawn to the cards with laser-cut wood details, elaborate pop-ups and hefty price tags! Once in a while I'll splurge on a card for $8.99 but lets be real... $8.99 for a card is a little ridiculous!
This week I decided to get crafty and make my own 'WOW' cards! I bought a huge pack of plain coloured, blank cards at Michaels (at 60% off), a few cute stickers, rounded up some Sharpies and my Martha Stewart glitter set (don't judge) then got to work!
The first step is obviously choosing a theme for your cards! I picked mine based on what stickers I was drawn to while shopping at Michaels. The unicorn sticker pack and donuts immediately caught my attention- they're just SO cute- and when I found the bees I couldn't resist them either- they look so sweet and summery!
When I got home I started to brainstorm words to put on each card that would coincide with the stickers and be relevant to the reason I was giving the cards! Once I settled on something I liked...I used my Sharpie to add it to the card!
The final step was adding glitter. Even though it's so tempting to put glitter on everything, I think the trick to making cards look 'wow' and not tacky, is being selective with the glitter! Choose 1-2 words or letters/lines that you'd like to highlight and only glitterize those!
Here's what I came up with:
Not only are the cards I made significantly cheaper than store bought versions, but I'm confident that my friends will appreciate the personal details.
HAPPY CARD MAKING! Let me know if you've ever tried making cards, and whether you have any tips/tricks to share!
