Isn't trying something new great? There are few things in life that I enjoy more! For Mother's Day this year Madeline and I thought we'd gift my mom an experience that involved learning a new skill- making pottery. We didn't want to sign up for a multiple week course (...aint NOBODY got time for that...) instead we were looking for a fun afternoon "workshop" that would allow us to spend a lot of time learning how to mould on the wheel and that we could walk away from with a clay creation and lots of great memories!
LucSculpture School and Studio, located on the Danforth in Toronto, provided exactly the experience we were looking for! When we arrived we were directed upstairs to put on our smocks and meet our instructor, Lisa, who was phenomenal! She gave us a quick demo on the wheel and then gave us our own clay and let us go to work! Even though working on the wheel was SO much harder than Lisa made it look, with her help and direction we were each able to create 3 pieces of pottery that we're pretty proud of!
It was surprisingly refreshing to be a beginner at something again! Not knowing exactly what we were doing and having to accept the fact that our work would be far from perfect made the experience stress free and tons of fun.
We had such a great time- experimenting, getting our hands dirty, being creative, failing a few times and laughing our heads off along the way- that we've decided to make learning a new skill together an annual tradition! Glass blowing.... we're coming for ya! ;)
Stay tuned...I'll definitely show you the finished products once they're glazed and ready to come home!
