It's hard to believe that the summer is already coming to an end (ahhh!). There's only ONE week left before school starts, which means back to work for me :(. I want to make the MOST of EVERY minute of "summer" I have left. So, this weekend, we did LOTS.

Picture this. You're in Maui, on your honeymoon. Your alarm goes off at 1:30am. No, it's not a mistake. you actually set it for that time (craaaazy). You drive an hour and a half to a run-down bike shop where you're given winter clothing and a helmet and loaded onto a bus. You're stomach feels like crap because of the crap you filled it with (read: the cheapest, worst, most artificial deep dish pizza on the island) the night before. You drive for an hour uphill where you see a stunning sunrise that you can hardly appreciate because you're tired, freezing cold and nauseous. THEN, you are given a bike and told to ride down the mountain you just drove up. At this point you DO NOT feel good. AT ALL.
This was me 3.5 weeks ago. What TOTALLY saved the day and allowed me to appreciate (and survive) the bike ride down Haleakala mountain was an INCREDIBLE smoothie that I stumbled upon at a local cafe called SIP ME.
I'm not usually a SMOOTHIE lover, but the Green Monster smoothie that I had at SIP ME totally converted me! Not only did it fill me up and taste delicious, but it seemed to cleanse my system and give me the energy boost I needed. Since coming home, I've enjoyed my own version of this smoothie nearly everyday!
Julia's CLEAN, GREEN MORNING MACHINE smoothie:
Put ALL ingredients into the blender
Blend until there are no BIG chunks and your smoothie has reached the desired consistency.
